As a UX designer, I've always been drawn to understanding the deeper 'why' behind design decisions. This curiosity has led me to embrace research as a core part of my practice, combining qualitative insights with large-scale quantitative analysis to help teams understand not just how people use our products, but how these products truly fit into their lives. This perspective has drawn me toward service design, where I can tackle complex challenges that span multiple touchpoints and user contexts. I'm driven by the belief that truly effective design must look beyond ideal workflows to understand and support real-world usage patterns.

Hi, I’m Derek

I love experiencing the world beyond what humans have created, which is why I spend so much time outdoors biking, hiking, or bouldering. I’m always eager to learn –whether it’s running my own servers at home to dive into computer systems and networking or reading both fiction and non-fiction; I am constantly seeking out new ideas and stories to inspire me and give me a greater perspective.
